Bloodline by Conn Iggulden

This novel from bestselling author Conn Iggulden is the third book in the critically acclaimed Wars of the Roses series. Following Stormbird and Trinity this novel will continue through the brutal Civil War that we now know as the Wars of the Roses.

Bloodline sees the Lancastrian and Yorkist factions clash at the battle of Towton - the single most bloody conflict every fought on British soil. The victorious Edward of York seals his claim to the English throne.

This series has completely wowed me.

Once upon a time, I only knew Iggulden as the author of the wonderful series about Caesar (and then that not so wonderful one about Attila the Hun). But never in my life did I ever imagine he'd write such a brilliant series about the English throne in the 15th century. He writes the most intricate plot lines and with such shady and nuanced characters. The action, the battles, the technology, the research, the history - it's all there and it's incredibly well written and brought together.

I haven't had a single bad thing to say about these books yet and nor do I for this one. Once again with the audiobook narrated by the talented Roy McMillan, I was transported back in time and more English history was brought to life. While very aware that this is fiction, I also know of the many facts in it (Igguldens afterword on this is such a brilliant addition!) and I feel like I learn a lot. It's far easier remembering history when you have it come alive in a story, rather than as cold facts, dates and names.

I read this book, convinced that this was a trilogy and I was reading the final instalment. And it could easily have ended there. Iggulden has a neat way of tying off plot lines and not leaving anything hanging.

So imagine my surprise and utter joy when I discovered a fourth book was on its way. And now it's here. Published just a few days ago, on Monday the 16th of May; Ravenspur: Rise of the Tudors, and judging from the titel - we'll learn how the Tudors came to rule... :D :D :D I'M SO EXCITED!!

In conclusion - great book, great series. If you enjoy history / action / suspense / the English monarchy this is for you.

    1. Jaaa The Tudors er fantastisk!!

    2. Jeg har set The White Queen, og derudover læst de to første bøger i serien af Philippa Gregory (The White Queen og The Red Queen), men er desværre gået lidt død i 3'eren.

Har du læst noget af Alison Weir? Fik lidt et læseflip af hendes bøger om The Tuders efter at have set serien. Hun skriver ret tæt op af de historiske kilder, men super interessant :-)

  3. Jeg har også hele The Cousins War-serien på reolen, vist bortset fra den seneste, The Kings Course - jeg skal have kæmpet mig gennem 3'eren, så jeg kan komme videre ;-)
